Micro Review: Ave Maria

Micro Review: Ave Maria Crusader (5 x 52)

Wrapper: Ecuadorian-grown Habano

Binder: Nicaraguan

Filler: Nicaraguan

Blender: AJ Fernandez

The Ave Maria has a lighter brown wrapper with a flashy band bearing the image of a crusader. Beyond the flash of the band, the wrapper is seamless and it feels heavy in the hand. The unlit scent is light and the lick on the cap triple is fairly sweet and slightly nutty. Little taste on the cold draw that has a good lack of resistance. Cold taste is of “autumn spices” and earth. Once lit, the first third has a wood note to it with a delicate spice through the nose and on the finish. Slowly the cigar transitions into the middle third to a nutty leather feel with more of the autumn spice through the nose. The finish is short and smooth. It is balanced very nicely with hints of sweetness. The last third retains the flavor profile of the middle third just a bit warmer and toastier. The Ave Maria is a very good medium bodied cigar.
